A working space, not a showroom. Controlled light, a decent kettle, and no one waiting for you to finish.
My workshop, not a hire space
The studio sits within my home in the village of Denton, twenty minutes south of Norwich and just over the Suffolk border.
It exists because some work is better when nothing is left to chance. No waiting on cloud. No apologising for a boardroom’s strip lighting. Seventy per cent of the job is moving one thing four inches, and that’s easier with nobody waiting for the room.
Everything else, the workplace and the interiors, happens where it lives. The studio is a tool, not a default.
When we’d use it
Product and still life
Almost always. Send the items or drop them off, and I’ll shoot them here.
Headshots
When you’d rather your team came to me than have me take over a meeting room for a day.
Portraits
Actors, authors, anyone who needs a proper lit portrait rather than a snap by a window.
The unglamorous inventory
Space
- Full blackout for controlled lighting
- North- and south-facing window light when that’s the better answer
- Seamless backdrop in white and black
- A garden with open field views, and Norfolk countryside around it
Kit
- Studio strobes with a full range of modifiers
- Tethered to a large monitor: you see every frame as it happens
- Product table and stills bench
- Sony bodies, with backup bodies and cards on every shoot
Practical
- Free parking on site
- Somewhere to change
- Wifi, tea, coffee and a proper chair for whoever’s waiting
- There’s even cake and biscuits
